Fraction Visualiser

Fraction Visualiser

Welcome to the Fraction Visualiser!
#

This tool helps you understand fractions by turning them into easy-to-read pie charts. By changing the numerator (the top part of the fraction) and the denominator (the bottom part of the fraction), you’ll see how much of the circle (or “whole”) is filled. This is a great way to get a better sense of what fractions mean!

How to Use the Tool:
#

  1. Enter a Fraction:

    • Type in a numerator (the number of parts you have) and a denominator (the number of parts that make up the whole). For example, to see the fraction 3/4, enter “3” as the numerator and “4” as the denominator.
  2. Visualise the Fraction:

    • Click “Visualise Fraction” to see a pie chart of your fraction. The filled part of the circle shows how much of the whole your fraction represents.
  3. Try Different Fractions:

    • Experiment by changing the numerator and denominator. For example, see how 1/2 compares to 3/4, or what happens when the numerator is greater than the denominator (like 5/3).

Using the Fraction Visualiser to Learn:
#

1. Understand Different Fractions:
#

  • Try entering simple fractions like 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4. Watch how the amount of the circle filled gets smaller as the denominator gets bigger. This shows that the bigger the denominator, the smaller each piece of the fraction.

2. Compare Fractions:
#

  • Try entering two different fractions one after the other. For example, input 2/3 and then 3/4. Which fraction shows a larger part of the circle? This will help you see which fraction is bigger visually.

3. Explore Equivalent Fractions:
#

  • Enter fractions like 1/2, 2/4, and 4/8. You’ll notice that all of these fractions look the same, even though the numbers are different. This is because they are equivalent fractions—they represent the same amount of the whole!

Lesson Plan: Exploring Fractions with the Fraction Visualiser
#

Objective:
#

  • By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use the Fraction Visualiser to understand fractions, compare them, and find equivalent fractions.

Activity Steps:
#

  1. Step 1: Visualise Fractions:

    • Start by typing in simple fractions like 1/2, 3/4, or 4/5. Watch how the pie chart changes with each new fraction you enter. Take note of how the size of the filled section changes.
  2. Step 2: Compare Two Fractions:

    • Enter two different fractions one after the other. For example, enter 1/2 and then 2/3. Which one has more of the circle filled? This shows you how fractions can be compared visually.
  3. Step 3: Find Equivalent Fractions:

    • Try entering 1/3, then 2/6, and finally 3/9. Do they all look the same? These are called equivalent fractions. Even though the numbers are different, they represent the same part of the whole.

Quick Questions:
#

  1. What happens when you enter a fraction like 3/3 or 5/5?
  2. How does the chart look if the numerator is larger than the denominator (like 7/4)?
  3. Can you find two fractions that look the same but use different numbers?

Use this tool to explore and understand fractions more easily. Play around with different numbers and see how they change the chart. Have fun learning!
